Mission Brief

This is not a pass/fail course. This is an operational assessment designed to show you exactly where you stand against AOSB standards.

The Virtual Mock AOSB Day replicates the pressure, pace and evaluation methods of the real selection board. You will face the same types of exercises, interviews and group tasks used to assess officer potential — delivered by former Army Officers who understand what assessors are looking for.

By the end of the day, you will know your current level, understand where you need to improve, and receive a detailed development report to guide your preparation before attending the real board.

Assessment Overview

See How Candidates Prepare

Watch candidates work through realistic AOSB-style exercises, face pressure interviews, and receive structured feedback from former Army Officers.

This is what it looks like to experience selection conditions before attending the real board.

Assessment Overview

Six-Stage Selection Simulation

01

Opening Briefing & Standards Brief

Many candidates assume AOSB is similar to civilian job interviews. It is not. The assessment standard is structured, unforgiving, and designed to expose weaknesses.

02

Individual Planning Exercise

You will be given a tactical planning scenario with limited time to analyse the problem, develop a solution and present your plan under pressure. This tests decision-making, logical thinking and communication under time constraints.

03

Public Speaking Assessment

Demonstrate your ability to communicate clearly, structure an argument and think under pressure. Assessors evaluate confidence, clarity, influence and how effectively you present ideas to an audience. For many candidates, this is their first experience speaking in a formal selection environment.

04

Current Affairs & Leadership Tasks

Demonstrate your awareness of national and international affairs, defence issues and strategic context. Alongside this, you will complete leadership-focused discussions designed to assess judgement, decision-making and your ability to articulate informed opinions under scrutiny.

05

Formal Interview & Personal Questioning

Face a structured interview conducted by a former Army Officer. Expect challenging questions about your motivation, leadership experience, understanding of the role and personal suitability. This is the highest-pressure section of the day.

06

Debrief & Development Report

Receive detailed feedback on your performance across all assessment areas. Your report will highlight strengths, identify weaknesses and provide structured recommendations for improvement before attending the real board.

Performance Feedback

Know Exactly Where You Stand

At the end of the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive development report breaking down your performance across all stages. This is not generic feedback — it is a detailed evaluation based on the same competencies used at the real AOSB.

Strength Areas

Competencies where you meet or exceed officer standards.

Development Areas

Specific weaknesses that need targeted improvement before the real board.

Actionable Recommendations

Structured guidance on how to prepare between now and your AOSB date.
